9/10/2025 - To-Do List

I've been using this Blog for three days now, and I'm getting a better sense of how I want to use it--I will use it as a language-learning "journal," but in the same way I use the personal pen-and-paper journal I keep in my pocket. It's not so much a "diary" for documenting days, like a journal in the traditional sense. Instead, I tend to journal in an all-purpose way--I use my journal for To-Do Lists, brainstorming, grocery lists, reminders, and so on. I use it for anything and everything--sometimes I write down little facts I learned that I want to remember, sometimes I note jokes I heard. I do try to make "daily journal entries" in the traditional sense as consistently as I can, but I don't really see it as the primary purpose of the journal.

So that's how I'll be using this Blog, going forward--this means a lot of it will probably make for pretty uninteresting reading unfortunately. The Blog will mostly be for me to keep my language study and work on the website organized and focused, and every now and then I'll write an actual "journal" post that may be more interesting. I'll work on labelling things accordingly, so folks can quickly find writing that may be more interesting to them and skip over all my housekeeping notes.

Next Steps:

(1) Finish Word Doc of Beginner Verb List Stem Forms formatted for Noji (Anki);

(2) update BVL to include 3rd Pers. Sing. Index Forms, verb table number, and CED/JW page number citations;

(3) update BVL to include "How To Use" section at the beginning, update older sections to reduce clutter in the labelling;

(4) upload Noji (Anki) formatted Word Doc and BVL pdf;

(5) review and reorganize In Progress Verb Tables, put non-BVL tables on back burner.

Considering:

- A separate Noji (Anki) formatted list of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Person PRC Index Forms for each BVL verb?  I could get this done and make it available pretty quickly, but it'd risk a lot of duplicative work in the long run. Maybe that's more a "pro" than a "con"--the repetition is good study and practice for me. But, when I finish each Verb Table, it's just a matter of copy/pasting everything to make Noji formatted lists that include a much wider range of Index Forms really quickly and easily. I still see the Verb Tables as the most valuable work I'm doing right now in terms of language, so maybe I should skip this idea and just shift directly to Verb Table tunnel focus ASAP.

Does it make sense to take the time to review the Noji Stem Forms doc with JW? I would really like to, but it's probably not a great use of my class time with him--it's a long document and we'd probably spend an entire class period or two just going down a list of line after line of stem forms in a kind of hard-to-read format. It'll probably be good enough to double-check my Stem Forms against his Stem Form book and include a specific disclaimer that I made the flash card document without any speaker review.

- The Essay review/writing has slowed down--what should I do next on that front?  I think the obvious answer is the "Beginner's Guide" essay about resources, time with speakers, phonetics and tone notation. Another option is the "Common Derivations" document I made with JW a few months ago--but I'd like to review it one more time with JW before posting it anywhere, because I know I spent a lot of time polishing it after our last discussion about derivation and I may have mixed some things up. As it's currently formatted, I think that document would work better as a Learning Material pdf, but it may be even better to rewrite it as an essay with some introductory pages about Derivation generally. That Introductory section could also include some details about the different kinds of nouns, leading pretty naturally to more writing about nouns.

Need to finish the Body Parts II handout.  I'll plan to review it with JW this Friday.

- Need to pin down the new stuff JW's been telling me about the /a/, /g/, and /ji/ Pronomials, and crystallize it into a writeup.  I should try to get a one-or-two pager done before Friday, so I can go over it with JW in our next class and make sure it's good to go. May need to update the other Pronomial documents too.

- I'm going to put the website reformatting work on the back burner. I don't think it's necessary to reorganize everything until there's more content up. Once things start feeling cluttered, I'll clean things up.

- Don't forget to review the SEO settings for recent posts soon.
